The Wine:
A blend of fruit from 3 vineyards in Heathcote - Kennedy, Carl Brown and Cavalry. The fruit from each vineyard is fermented separately with a high percentage of whole bunches - around 60% of the total blend - and elevage takes place in old and new French oak. The barrels are then blended to stainless steel for 3 months before bottling.
The 2023 season was one of the latest on record at Syrahmi, and Adam Foster has spoken to the extra hang time being ideal for using a high proportion of fully lignified stems in the ferments, lending beautifully ripe herbaceous notes and freshness to the wine, as well as enhancing its fine yet firm tannin. Full of black fruits, olive tapenade, white pepper and juicy acidity - this is remarkably complex and detailed drinking at just $30.00. So easy to drink yet one you can ponder as well if you like.
